This traditional 19th century semi detached cottage is situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park in a rural position with far reaching views of the Lake District fells and Langdale Pikes in the distance. The cottage is approached down a private drive making it secluded and quiet yet it is only 1 1/2 miles from the mediaeval market town of Kendal, known as Gateway to the Lakes. Kendal is the main shopping town for the south lakes. It has a good range of shops and the River Kent flows through the centre of the town. The Abbot Hall Art Gallery contains paintings and sculptures including landscapes by Turner and Ruskin. The Brewery Arts Centre offers a good range of films and concerts and the Kendal Museum and Museum of Lakeland Life are also well worth a visit. The ruins of Kendal Castle rise on a hill just outside the town.

Being north of Kendal it is extremely convenient for Windermere, Ambleside and the rest of the central lakes - the Lake District National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, 1/4 being owned by the National Trust. Lake Windermere at 10 1/2 miles is the longest of the 16 lakes. Ambleside is approximtely the centre of the Lake District and the lakes radiate out in most directions. The children's author and illustrator, Beatrix Potter lived in Hawkshead near Windermere and the poet, William Wordsworth lived in Grasmere.

The Longsleddadale and Kentmere valleys are only 4 miles away offering dramatic scenery, good walking and birdwatching - buzzards can often be seen circling the hills opposite the cottage.

Ten miles east takes you to Sedbergh and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
